Pair convicted of Banbury stabbing

Two men have been convicted in connection with a stabbing in Banbury.

Tom East, aged 27, of no fixed abode, Gary Woodwards, aged 25, of Middleton Road, Banbury were convicted at Oxford Crown Court on Monday (7/1).

East and Woodwards were convicted of unlawful wounding and possession of a bladed article. Both pleaded guilty to the charges on the first day of trial.

At around 7.20pm on July 25 last year, the two victims, men aged 64 and 36, sustained stab wounds at a family fun fair on Ruscote Avenue, Banbury, during a confrontation.

Both victims were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries but were later discharged.

Both East and Woodwards were arrested on the same day and then charged on 26 July.

They were remanded into custody and will be sentenced on 27 February at Oxford Crown Court.

Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Darren Pomroy, of Force CID at Banbury, said: “We are pleased that East and Woodwards have taken responsibility for their actions, and this will now give the victims closure today without having to relive their experience in court.

“Thames Valley Police will always investigate reports such as this extremely seriously and work hard to bring offenders into court to face justice.”
